Restful Renewal

The warmth of the afternoon sun blends with the cool shade under the lush canopy. Moss covered bricks offer an inviting path a few short steps from the pool and surrounding gardens. Steel and glass doors effortlessly glide open, beckoning you into a  spa-like oasis. This once unassuming hall bath has been transformed into a sanctuary of relaxation.

Overnight guests enter through the home’s original

double cypress doors from the central hallway. Upon entry, the sheen of the hand-lacquered wallpaper reflects the soft sunlight while the wall-hung vanity appears to float in mid-air. The curbless shower and freestanding bathtub seem at once invigorating and relaxing to the soul.

Creating easily accessible storage and infusing unique

details are paramount in the design of multi-functional spaces. Beneath the stairs, a previously untapped area was captured and outfitted with copious amounts of custom storage.  Cypress, locally milled into horizontal planks, was used to create large panels, visually blending with the adjacent wall and concealing the newfound storage.

Design details abound. A steel shelf, passing seamlessly through the glass partition, brings a storage solution to the shower and toilet areas. The newly poured foundation was sloped to accommodate the linear drain for the shower. The bathtub, however, required a level surface on which to sit. The solution was a tile platform built into the floor to support the bathtub and keep it level while the surrounding floor continued to slope. Extending toward the bathtub, the extra length of the lower vanity shelf was constructed to serve as either a bench seat or storage for additional items. Whether relaxing under the soft cascade of water from the rain shower head or enjoying a long soak in the tub, this bathroom offers a truly restful renewal.
