Historic Whisper
There’s a mysterious beauty that can quietly capture attention in the south. A labyrinth
of overgrown trees, dripping in Spanish moss, and old world ironwork entrances evoke
reveries of romance and poetry.
Always charming. Never contrived. These two concepts are firmly rooted within the
design philosophy of this new construction project. Our clients admired the neo classical
architecture and 19th century style prominently found on every corner in Louisiana, so
the challenge was to create that quintessential aesthetic on a new plot of land in a
neighboring state.
Simplicity, practicality and livability were the non-negotiables. Recently transplanted
from California, we both had a keen understanding for establishing how to migrate a
sense of livable luxury to the south.
Restraining the color palette was essential for a timeless space. We integrated
variations of white tones to soothe the mood and avoid a sterile atmosphere. Using
different finishes and textures, the subtle delineation between the millwork, walls and
ceiling created a depth of layered monochromatic tones.
The kitchen, purposefully located in the middle of their home, maintained a focus for
their culinary and entertainment lifestyle. Functionality was key.
Exposed shelving played into the easy-access, no-nonsense practicality, while adding
an element of visual interest. We maximized space in a narrow place. Custom cabinets
went to the ceiling, drawing the eye up and expanding storage.
Maintaining a dose of formality without the rules and regulations, Belgian linen
slipcovers were introduced for a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe. The traditional style of
furniture speaks softly through the graceful silhouette of the pleated and pressed linen.
After seven years, it still feels just as functional and modern.
